Jonathan Cohen

aka  Junkfood Jonny

Jon Cohen, originally from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, relocated to Black Mountain, North Carolina in 2005.

Though the youngest member of the Hurricane Bob Band,  he is by no means inexperienced.  Jon Cohen is a classically trained percussionist who has been involved in virtually every style of music for the last fifteen years. From high school marching band to drum and bugle corps to full-fledged percussion ensembles, and even electronic music, Jon's experience and background shines through.

Jon attended college at University of Central Florida where he studied music performance,  and later went on to focus his studies on African music and rhythms. While living in Florida, Jon played with many local bands and was an in-demand session player for both his drumming virtuosity and for his latin percussion playing.

Through the years he has performed and recorded with a wide variety of talent, focusing mostly on jazz,  R & B,  and rock music. His last project was Five Strokes on Suede, which he co-produced, arranged and composed. Lately he has begun playing bass guitar to expand his talent,  and it has opened up a whole new musical language for him that is evident when you see him play with Joey D' Bass Player.

Jon brings a solid,  yet eclectic feel to the rhythm section of the Hurricane Bob Band.  The interaction and connectivity between drums and bass at times makes them seem like one instrument.

Jon’s drumming is punchy and dynamic, loaded with subtleties...  It can be up-front-in-your-face,  or in-the-pocket,  setting a smooth groove, whether the drumbeat lays out in the background, rises up in the foreground or just sets a solid ground for Hurricane Bob to build from.

Always wickedly precise in his drumming technique, Junkfood Jonny is a one-of-a-kind player that other drummers - and fans - come out to watch!
