Hurricane Bob

Hurricane Bob Travers was born to play.

Growing up in the diversity of New York in the 1960’s and 70’s, he was surrounded by the music of blues, jazz and rock legends.

Under the influence of Count Baise, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, The Allman Brothers, Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, and other musical giants,  Bob couldn’t help but pick up a few licks here and there.

Crediting his father for his rich and diverse musical education and endless amounts of encouragement, Bob took to the guitar, piano and lap steel like a fish to water.

Migrating south from his native New York seemed a natural progression for Bob, with his bluesy sound and aggressive guitar style. His unabashed technique has not gone unnoticed and he continues to strike hard every time he hits the stage.

Dubbed Hurricane by fans in Virginia, it seemed no accident when one evening during a blistering jam session in popular blues club, the rains hit. The storm inside and outside was literally Hurricane Bob.

As Hurricane’s reputation as a guitar slinger grew, he became known for his blazing guitar work, burning up the frets with his uniquely explosive blues power,  knocking the crowd dead with the naked emotion of his vocals and soaring,  passionate guitar solos.

Bob is a real treat to see live.

He has opened for such names as Pat Travers, Black Foot, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Molly Hatchet, and Johnny Winter. A variety of notable acts such as Johnny Copeland, Ronnie Earl, Lonnie Brooks, Saffire, Little Jimmy King, The Night Hawks, Little Charlie and the Night Cats, and Jimmy Thackery have all shared the stage with Hurricane Bob.

One evening after hearing one of Hurricane’s songs on the radio, Ritchie Hayward, legendary drummer for the band Little Feat, tracked Bob down and then jammed with him that night at a local club.

Aside form his original material, Hurricane can put his magic touch on a classy set of B. B. King, Hendrix, James Brown, etc.,  or break out his lap steel and play a vicious slide guitar tribute to Johnny Winter or Elmore James.

Hurricane Bob’s powerful stage presence, his growling guitar tenacity and soulful singing sum up perfectly what a hurricane should be:

Electrifying!
